Hajime

Posted by over_the_EdGE at 11:52 PM on September 17, 2004.

So let's begin.

This is my second attempt at a blog, online journal or whatever buzz word one may want to use. My first one was on Blogger. It was pretty okay, but am not quite happy with the layout so that sort of fell apart.

Today is a backbreaking day. I woke up too late, got to work just before 7:30am and I had to substitute for a co-teacher. Then I had to print out all the quiz grades of my students, sort out the marshmallows and prepare the quizzes.

My first class was with 1A and while it went well as far as "fun" goes, it was a logistical nightmare.

Ich, I was missing two quiz sheets for Paul and Perry. Ni, Ms. Aims showed up to observe me. San, my diskette acted up and had to borrow from Ms. Afuang, whose own PC was giving her problems and then from Thess. Shi, Mr. Waxx Arroyo had the brilliant idea of talking about S&M when we were talking about corporal punishment (while Ms. Aims was still there!)....

Grrr....

No lunch for me as well, just a mallow. 3I was alright, with their usual devil-may-care attitude. Some were more cooperative, others were decidedly unaffected by the immersion yesterday.

1E was the absolute pain today and for that I only leave this message:

The following High_One_E poll is now closed.  Here are the
final results:

POLL QUESTION: sino sa tingin niyo ang titser na

Calzone baby

A Price Smart Calzone and a Baked Chicken Wrap...

Cheese overload, not for the lactose-intolerant

Alright, on Saturdays I couldn't really keep up with my plans. Not that they go all over the place, am just usually to lazy to get myself out of bed in time. As for now, am off trying to think of a movie to watch, "The Terminal" maybe but I haven't seen a Spielberg movie since "Saving Private Ryan" which was in 1998.

Shock of all shocks, given that my favorite director as a kid was Steven Spielberg. Well for one, Amistad looked really boring. I'm sure it had all the right intentions, but what came after that? Minority Report? A.I.? I think it was the other way around, anyway, Spielberg has been dropping in my book since it was rumored/announced that he wanted to turn Harry Potter into an Americanized film.

So here I go, will I survive a Spielberg movie?

Big with Boobs

Posted by over_the_EdGE at 10:49 AM on September 19, 2004.

Apparently I'm not meant to watch Spielberg.

We arrived 10 minutes too late for "The Terminal" so my friend and I decided to watch something else. And oh yey "13 Going on 30"!

When they said that this was a retelling of the old Tom Hanks movie, "Big", they weren't kidding. From the childhood novelty item as the "magical donor" to the wacky events that ensue to the rediscovery of the novelty item turning the protagonist back into the child he or she was.

13 Going on 30 is Big with major time-travel complications. I found it harder to swallow than Big, but maybe I was just younger then. Jennifer Garner was very believable as 13 year old 30 year old and there are a lot genuine cute moments, but tell me how many movies (Shrek 2 and Ella Enchanted included) must rely on song-and-dance numbers for an funny or "Aww" moment or two? Granted it works better here than in the ill-fated Anne Hathaway flick, it never seems to reach the excellence achieved by the more inspired OTHER 80's as retro flick, "Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion.

Blasted from the Past

Posted by over_the_EdGE at 11:28 AM on September 19, 2004.

Just realized I like starting these entries with B's...

Yesterday, more than just watching the movie (which I was supposed to watch in Powerplant, then Galleria and finally ended up in Eastwood), I received one blow from the past after another.

The whole move was retro enough but man, the people I met after. First was my old friend I haven't seen since before we graduated. He actually called me last week, I wasn't able to answer. Apparently, he just wanted to ask me if the Gamecube was good purchase. I told him yesterday it was.

When I parked myself in Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf (Chai Latte!), a high school friend and his girlfriend suddenly showed up. Man, I haven't seen these two since 2002! After a quick catching up we went about our own ways.

The last two people to check in on me were far less pleasant. Two people I used to "date" texted and called me respectively. Note my use of " " and apparently those two wanted more than just a short conversation . I politely excused myself claiming a non-existent party I have to be at as the culprit of my stolen time.

A word of warning to the younger, be not afraid to face your blunders

Owaranai Natsuyasumi

Posted by over_the_EdGE at 08:12 PM on September 19, 2004.

Here's hoping some of you, if there are people reading this, would probably recognize it as a song from Ranma 1/2. My Ranma's quite rusty, as many things are, but if I recall correctly it was from an OAV (or OVA as others prefer) and it means "Endless Summer"or "Never Ending Summer"

So aside from blogging, what else did I do today? Absolutely nothing! I ended up sleeping and having somre pretty crazy dreams. Too bad I can't remember anything about them. I think I just put a new twist on the phrase: Sleep All Day...

Things to do:

1. Check compositions (3I)
2. Holes (1A & 1E)
3. Make quizzes (3I)
4. Check compositions (1E)
5. Make lesson plans (1A & 1E)
6. Check compositions (1A)
7. Check quizzes (1A)
8. Record quizzes (1A, 1E, 3I)
9. Progress Reports

Do I get paid enough to do these things? To deal with such bra...er...fine up standing boys like my students?

This is about being young...

Posted by over_the_EdGE at 03:09 PM on September 20, 2004.

Alright, am still young am I not?

Certainly not the youngest of the brood, but still young enough to pursue my dreams or whatever whatnot.

One of the things that can really kick you down is when you don't really know what you want anymore. Maybe it's just Monday blues but somehow I feel very ineffective... like the sap of life has been drained from me off for better use for more efficient and more practical motions and notions.

Well there's a run-on for you if I ever saw one.

What does it mean if you're young? Does it make you more vibrant? More wasteful of potent opportunity? It has been said that youth is wasted on the young.

That resonates within me as I look at myself in the mirror, looking at dreams in my eyes, silent wishes that were never quite brought to being, buds that never blossomed and flowers that never bore fruit.

Who am I to talk about fruit anyway? C'est la vie! C'est la amor! Heck this isn't even about love fer goodness sake! I could do without that for now, much less the nagging of the nameless few.

too much, too little, never quite ever.

Kampai!

Finding Hemo...

Posted by over_the_EdGE at 08:40 PM on September 21, 2004.

Okay first there was Bug's Life and then there was Antz...

Then there was Finding Nemo and now there's... well...

Foxtrot best expresses how I feel. Note that this comic strip came out more than year ago, around the time of the release of Finding Nemo in the US.

Looking at the ad campaigns of ALL Dreamworks animated features, it saddens me that they always have to angle it in such a way that the Stars are the main attraction in the movie. If you remember the ad campaign for Shrek centered on the names MYERS, DIAZ, MURPHY and LITHGOW. Not that I hate them heck I love Diaz and Lithgow, but if the names are more valuable than the actual content...something more than cheese is rotten in Denmark....

Pixar never had to lace their movies with big name actors and if and when they did, the actors were barely mentioned. Hey Eric Bana was in Finding Nemo but you don't see his name laced on the poster. Alright his role was small, but hey Dreamworks even has Katie Couric in Finding Hemo...oh sorry... I mean Shark's Tale....

AND WHAT IS IT ABOUT VEGETARIAN SHARKS???

Been there, eaten that....

Remember fish are friends not food....

Currently feeling: slightly pissed

Here's an old poem of mine I dug up today...

In a play of tempestuous words
Quicksilver banter
In a comic display of overstated wit

A-Day....

Posted by over_the_EdGE at 10:11 PM on September 24, 2004.

Today is Appreciation Day.

My very first Appreciation Day.

Man, is this entry is very choppy. Quite ironic since I herald the gospel of good writing to my students.

I was very touched today by the letters of some of my students. Mostly from Mark Keng, Jon Hu and Joaquin Arroyo. But aside from that, which was the highlight of the day, I was totally out of it.

I dunno A-Day comes at a time when I started questioning my vocation. For the uninitiated, a vocation is more than just a job, it is an answer to call.

Disillusioned maybe. Confused or still trying to find my bearings. I really don't know. My students came to me with wishes of me moving to teaching 2nd Year when they do or hoping that I become their class adviser the following year.

If only I could, but what are the chances of that? What are the chances of me still being in XS next year? Where is that great adventure that I've always been looking for?

Ah who knows? I haven't eat dinner yet, walang gana...

you know your backlog is pretty bad when you don't count the number of papers you need to check in terms of classes, batches or sets but rather how heavy it is. suddenly the actual individual tests don't count but rather collectively en masse.

Ack! Sore throat.

Feels like a pair of pliers are constantly pulling my tonsils outs....
